The Oxford School of Drama is committed to developing diversity in the arts and working proactively towards an increase in the range of actors training for the profession.
Our outreach programme is headed up by OSD graduate, Gary Pillai (RSC, Sadler’s Wells, Royal Court), who works as an actor, acting coach and Triforce Monologue Slam tutor, and Sara Houghton (Yellow Earth Theatre, Arcola, BAC, Lyric Hammersmith) who is an audition tutor, professional actor and graduate of the School.
Free one-day workshops are held across the UK for aspiring actors of 18 and up from groups that are under-represented in the arts, to develop their skills and capabilities as actors.
The aim of the programme is to broaden the range of talented actors applying to drama schools, including those:
- from BAME backgrounds
- from families with low incomes or in lower socio-economic groups
- with disabilities
We also offer free talks, workshops and a number of audition fee waivers to partner organisations. We currently support the National Youth Theatre’s Playing Up course and the Yellow Earth Academy students, and are always interested in collaborating with other groups and organisations.
